Hong Kong – Adopts rules for WLAN devices to use 6GHz spectrum

OFCA in Hong Kong has adopted rules to allow WLAN devices to use part of the 6 GHz spectrum. It has published a new Class License and technical standard HKCA 1081 that will allow operation in the 5925-6425 MHz band:

    1. Indoor operation with power up to 24 dBm EIRP
    2. Outdoor operation with power up to 14 dBm EIRP

Products are expected to comply with EN 303 687 requirements but are allowed to deviate from EU requirements for indoor devices:

    • Power output limit is increased by 1 dBm to 24 dBm EIRP
    • PSD increased to 11 dBm/MHz (from 10 dBm/MHz)

While approval of client devices using the 6 GHz band would continue to be voluntary, it is expected that 6 GHz capable Access Points will fall into the compulsory certification scheme and be subject to labelling requirements.
