IMDA has published a new technical specification for “Internet of Things” (IMDA TS IOT Issue 1, dated 1 November 2017) This specification defines the minimum technical requirements for Internet of Things (IoT) devices that use low power wide area technologies to operate in one of the authorized cellular frequency bands (band 1, 3, 7, 8, 40). Category M1 equipment may operate in bands 1, 3, 7, 8 and 40 and Narrowband-IoT (NB-IoT) equipment may operate in E-UTRA bands 1, 3 and 8.
It is anticipated that IMDA will develop technical regulations to include other LPWAN (Low Power WAN) devices that operate in licensed and unlicensed frequency bands in future versions of this standard.
