{"id":1480,"date":"2017-03-03T20:21:16","date_gmt":"2017-03-04T04:21:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nuzeal.com\/?p=1480"},"modified":"2017-03-03T20:21:16","modified_gmt":"2017-03-04T04:21:16","slug":"canada-new-version-of-rss-247","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nuzeal.com\/index.php\/2017\/03\/03\/canada-new-version-of-rss-247\/","title":{"rendered":"Canada &#8211; New version of RSS-247"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nuzeal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/canada.png?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-840\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nuzeal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/canada.png?resize=191%2C100&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"191\" height=\"100\" align=\"left\" \/><\/a>ISED has published Issue 2 of RSS-247, <cite>Digital Transmission Systems (DTSs), Frequency Hopping Systems (FHSs) and <span class=\"nowrap\">Licence-Exempt<\/span> Local Area Network (<span class=\"nowrap\">LE-LAN<\/span>) Devices<\/cite>, which replaces <span class=\"nowrap\">RSS-247<\/span>, <span class=\"nowrap\">Issue 1<\/span>, dated <span class=\"nowrap\">May 2015<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>This was published on 23 February 2017, after which there is a six month transition period. After this applications for certification must use RSS-247 Issue 2.<\/p>\n<p>The changes include:<\/p>\n<ol class=\"lst-spcd\">\n<li>new section 3.3: state the requirement for emissions that fall within restricted frequency bands to comply with the provisions in <span class=\"nowrap\">RSS-Gen<\/span>, <cite><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ic.gc.ca\/eic\/site\/smt-gst.nsf\/eng\/sf08449.html\">General Requirements for Compliance of Radio Apparatus<\/a><\/cite>;<\/li>\n<li>section 5.4(b): reinstated the former <span class=\"nowrap\">e.i.r.p.<\/span> limit for frequency hopping systems operating in the band <span class=\"nowrap\">2400-2483.5\u00a0MHz<\/span>, which employ a hopset with less than <span class=\"nowrap\">75\u00a0channels<\/span>;<\/li>\n<li>section 6.2: add a clarification to ensure that emissions that fall within restricted frequency bands shall comply with the provisions in <span class=\"nowrap\">RSS-Gen<\/span>;<\/li>\n<li>section 6.2: state the measurement method for power and unwanted emission limits for <span class=\"nowrap\">licence-exempt<\/span> local area network devices and digital transmission systems operating in the <span class=\"nowrap\">5 GHz<\/span> band;<\/li>\n<li>section 6.2.1 and 6.2.2: add a provision to allow original equipment manufacturer (OEM) devices installed in road vehicles to operate in the band <span class=\"nowrap\">5150-5250\u00a0MHz<\/span> with an e.i.r.p. limit of <span class=\"nowrap\">30 mW<\/span> or <span class=\"nowrap\">1.76 + 10 log<sub>10<\/sub>B<\/span>, dBm, whichever is less stringent;<\/li>\n<li>section 6.2.1.2: clarify the requirement for devices operating in the band <span class=\"nowrap\">5150-5250\u00a0MHz<\/span>, which have bandwidth that falls into the band <span class=\"nowrap\">5250-5350 MHz<\/span>;<\/li>\n<li>section 6.2.2.2 (b): permit the requisite &#8220;for indoor use only&#8221; notice for equipment operating in the band <span class=\"nowrap\">5250-5350 MHz<\/span> to be included in the user manual;<\/li>\n<li>section 6.2.2.3: apply the requirement of e.i.r.p. at different elevations for equipment operating in the band <span class=\"nowrap\">5250-5350 MHz<\/span> to outdoor fixed devices only;<\/li>\n<li>section 6.2.2.3: limit e.i.r.p. of OEM devices installed in road vehicles to <span class=\"nowrap\">30 mW<\/span> or <span class=\"nowrap\">1.76 + 10 log<sub>10<\/sub>B<\/span>, dBm, whichever is less stringent;<\/li>\n<li>section 6.2.2.3: allow equipment, other than outdoor fixed devices, operating in the band <span class=\"nowrap\">5250-5350 MHz<\/span> having e.i.r.p. greater than <span class=\"nowrap\">200 mW<\/span> to either comply with the e.i.r.p. elevation mask or to include a firmware feature to reduce their e.i.r.p. permanently should it be requested by the Department;<\/li>\n<li>section 6.2.3.2: allow equipment operating in the band <span class=\"nowrap\">5650-5725 MHz<\/span> with bandwidth overlapping the band <span class=\"nowrap\">5725-5850 MHz<\/span> to meet the emission limit of <span class=\"nowrap\">\u221227\u00a0dBm\/MHz e.i.r.p.<\/span> at <span class=\"nowrap\">5850 MHz<\/span>;<\/li>\n<li>section 6.2.4.2: modify the unwanted emission limits for <span class=\"nowrap\">LE-LAN<\/span> devices and DTSs operating in the band <span class=\"nowrap\">5725-5850 MHz<\/span>;<\/li>\n<li>section 6.2.4.2: add a transition date for certification of <span class=\"nowrap\">LE-LAN<\/span> devices and DTSs operating in the band <span class=\"nowrap\">5725-5850 MHz<\/span> to have unwanted emissions comply with either provisions in <span class=\"nowrap\">section 5.5<\/span> or <span class=\"nowrap\">section 6.2.4.2<\/span>;<\/li>\n<li>section 6.2.4(b): add a transition date for manufacture, importation, distribute, lease, offer for sales, or sales of <span class=\"nowrap\">LE-LAN<\/span> devices and DTSs operating in the band <span class=\"nowrap\">5725-5850 MHz<\/span> which do not comply with provisions in <span class=\"nowrap\">section 6.2.4(b)<\/span>; and<\/li>\n<li>Annex A: delete the word &#8220;pre-installation&#8221; to clarify that the verification of e.i.r.p. compliance at different elevations for devices operating in the band <span class=\"nowrap\">5250-5350\u00a0MHz<\/span> needs to be done at the time of certification (before installation);
